Research Associate (Postdoc) in soil protection with a focus on soil water balance § 28 Subsection 2 HmbHG

Start date: 2024-08-01, fixed for a period of three years (This is a fixed-term contract in accordance with Section 2 of the academic fixed-term labor contract act [Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG]). The contract provides for a maximum extension of up to three years depending on the associate’s achievements during the first stage. Providing that a position is available and that requirements have been fulfilled, the associate may apply for temporary civil servant status in accordance with Section 28 subsection 2 HmbHG., 2024-06-21

Your Responsibilities

Duties include teaching and research in the respective department or institute. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications as well as acquire teaching experience. These duties are intended to promote academic achievement. Therefore, at least one-third of set working hours will be made available for the associate’s own academic work.

This includes research and teaching in the field of soil science and soil protection, especially in the field of soil hydrological processes within the soil-plant-atmosphere continuum, spatial and seasonal variability, as well as the modeling of the soil water balance.
Collaboration in projects and the further development of current topics within the working group are encouraged.

The teaching obligation is 4 LVS.

Your profile

A university degree in a relevant field, plus doctorate.

Successfully completed studies in the field of geoecology, geosciences, agricultural sciences or a comparable degree program with a focus on soil science. PhD in the field of soil science, focus on soil water balance desirable. Sound experience in the field of ecohydrology and in the statistical analysis of pedological and soil hydrological data.

In-depth knowledge in the design and implementation of field and/or laboratory measurement campaigns, knowledge of soil hydrological laboratory analysis and experience with simulations in soil water balance models. A genuine interest and commitment to teaching and training in this field. Fluency in German is required.
