The Group of Software Engineering is looking for a 

Scientific Employee (f/m/d)
Research Software Engineer –
HIFIS Software Consulting

The position will be available from 1 October 2024. The employment contract is limited until 30 September 2026. The place of work is Dresden-Rossendorf. The working time amounts to 39 h/week.

Your tasks

  • Development of strategies and their implementation to refine and further establish a research software consulting service for the entire Helmholtz Association in close cooperation with partners from Helmholtz centers across Germany
  • Collaboration with researchers from the entire Helmholtz Association in the implementation of modern and appropriate software engineering methods
  • Provisioning of tailored material to empower scientists of multiple domains to implement and to perpetuate modern scientific software engineering principles
  • Establishment of guidelines for good practices in research software engineering across the whole Helmholtz Association

Your profile

  • Completed university studies (Master/Diploma and preferably PhD) in the field of Computer Science, Natural Sciences or Mathematics or any other related field with a strong connection to the topic
  • Relevant professional experience (3-5 years) in the specified area
  • Profound knowledge of at least one programming language, preferrably Python and/or modern C++
  • Solid experience in sustainable, tailored software engineering with modern tools (e.g. Git, CI/CD, container technologies, build tools)
  • Passion and enthusiasm for new topics around Software Engineering, sustainable software development, Open Source, etc.
  • As a motivated, open and creative person who likes to take the initiative, you will enjoy working in a team spread across multiple Helmholtz centers in Germany
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbally and written. Knowledge of German is beneficial
