Cutting-edge Research
for a Changing World
Reference code: 50106336_2 – 2023/KS 10
Commencement date: as soon as possible
Work location: Geesthacht
Application deadline: November 15th, 2023
The Institute of Coastal Systems at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon in Geesthacht, near Hamburg, Germany, invites applications for a position in the field of climate change and Earth System Modelling. The position is initially for one year, with the prospect of extension subject to Phase II funding for a further 3 years.
The position is part of the project CoastalFutures (Scenarios to Promote Sustainable Futures of Contested Marine Areas) that forms part of the German DAM Research mission "Protection and Sustainable Use of Marine Spaces". The project develops, simulates and explores future human use scenarios and triggered impacts in the North and Baltic Sea and their estuaries, and explores existing protection measures and new management options together with stakeholders from maritime management and industry. CoastalFutures concentrates on climate impacts and anticipated manmade pressures at basin scales from four management sectors: (1) offshore renewable energy production, (2) fisheries, (3) nature-based coastal protection measures and (4) eutrophication originating from terrestrial sources.
Equal opportunity is an important part of our personnel policy. We would therefore strongly encourage qualified women to apply for the position.
In principle, the full-time position (39 h/week) is also shareable.
The Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon conducts cutting-edge international research for a changing world: Around 1,100 employees contribute to the tackling of climate change, the sustainable use of the world's coastal systems and the resource-compatible enhancement of the quality of life. From fundamental research to practical applications, the interdisciplinary research spectrum covers a unique range.
The Institute for Coastal Systems Analysis and Modeling studies the dynamics of coastal systems as part of the Earth system and develops prediction methods and future scenarios for coastal systems. One focus of our research is the study of coastal ecosystems, which are subject to increasing pressure to change due to climate change, use of coastal environments, and other human drivers.
Then we are looking forward to receiving your comprehensive application documents (cover letter, CV, transcripts, certificates etc.) indicating the reference number 2023/KS 10 until November 15th, 2023.
Apply nowSeverely disabled persons and those equaling severely disabled persons who are equally suitable for the position will be considered preferentially within the framework of legal requirements.
